World Heart Day

World Heart Day takes place on 29th September every year.  The day is part of an international campaign to spread awareness about cardiovascular disease, including heart disease and stroke prevention. This year’s global campaign theme is MY HEART, YOUR HEART. It’s about saying to ourselves, the people we care about and individuals all around the world, “What can I do right now to look after MY HEART… and YOUR HEART?

High blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose levels, lack of exercise and unhealthy diets are all factors which can trigger heart diseases and increase the risk of premature death.  World Heart Day was conceived to instill the message that if heart problems can be identified early enough, many heart problems can be prevented.

The main purpose of the campaign is to improve health nationally by encouraging positive lifestyle changes, enlightening and educating people on ways to keep their hearts healthy at all time.  One major aspect which causes heart problems is carrying excess weight on the body.  On World Heart Day, events like walks, runs, concert and sport activities take place globally to promote healthy lifestyles and healthy hearts.
